Alan Ladd, the star of the movies “Shane,” “The Glass Key,” “The Blue Dahlia,” “Boy on a Dolphin” and “The Carpetbaggers” was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and North Hollywood, California. Ladd, who suffered from chronic insomnia, died at the age of 50 in 1964 from what was ruled an accidental overdose of alcohol and sedatives. Married twice, he is survived by three children, Alan Ladd Jr., 76, Alana Ladd, 70, and David Ladd, 67, who was married to actress Cheryl Ladd from 1973 to 1980. David and Cheryl’s daughter Jordan Ladd, 39, appeared in several horror movies, including “Grace,” “Grindhouse” and “Cabin Fever.”
