Tom Carvel started selling ice cream in 1934 from his truck in New York and opened his first prefabricated ice cream store in 1953 in Glastonbury (pop. 31,876). Today, the company is headquartered Farmington (pop. 23,641), and its sweet treats are sold in more than 500 Carvel stores.
