Charles Willson Peale, who was born in 1741 in Queen Annes County (pop. 40,563), was widely known as a painter, naturalist, inventor and pioneer museum curator. He painted portraits of many of the states upper-class residents as well as U.S. presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
