Early National Historic Landmark District

The historic downtown area of Annapolis (pop. 38,394) in 1965 became one of the nation’s earliest National Historic Landmark Districts, a distinction awarded by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The district is known for its large collection of 18th-century architecture.
