Potato Play

No messy hot-wing hands with these twice-baked potatoes, which get a kick from buffalo sauce.

Buffalo Potato Footballs

Cut 6 medium baked russet potatoes in half lengthwise. Scoop pulp into a large bowl and mash with a fork. Stir in 1/2 cup wing sauce (like Sweet Baby Ray’s Buffalo Wing Sauce), 1 (8-oz) pkg softened and cubed cream cheese and 1 Tbsp dry ranch dip mix (like Hidden Valley). Spoon mixture into potato skins and smooth with the back of a spoon. Bake 10 to 15 minutes, until filling is hot. Remove from oven and top each potato with 1 Tbsp cheddar cheese. Bake another 3 to 5 minutes, until cheese is melted. Pipe “laces” on top of potatoes using a squeeze bottle of sour cream (like Daisy). Makes 12

Touchdown Toast

“Our tradition is a sparkling apple cider—or as we call it, party juice—celebration when our favorite team scores a touchdown,” says Heather Delaney Reese, mom of three who blogs at It’s a Lovely Life and also at the Reese family’s video blog. “We keep a couple bottles chilling in the fridge and then my daughter Maddie runs over and pours some whenever it’s time to celebrate!”

Super Stackers

Everything’s better on a stick—even cheeseburgers and pizza!

Bacon Cheeseburger Kebabs

Kids can help put together this fun party food, says Becky Hardin, blogger at The Cookie Rookie in St. Peters, Mo.

The Cookie Rookie

Use a small biscuit cutter to cut slices of bread into four circles per slice. Assemble skewers using bread pieces, lettuce, cheddar cheese cubes, cooked beef meatballs, bread and butter pickles, cooked thick-cut bacon slices, sliced Roma tomatoes and Swiss cheese cubes. Serve with mustard and ketchup for dipping.

Pizza on a Stick

More fun than a slice, these skewers are from Evelyn Osborn, blogger at My Turn for Us and mom of three in Abilene, Texas.

My Turn for Us

Preheat oven to 400°F and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. On 10 metal or 10 soaked wooden skewers, thread slices of cooked Italian sausage (like Johnsonville), white onion, cherry tomatoes, green bell pepper, pepperoni slices and whole mushrooms. Unroll 1 (14-oz) tube refrigerated pizza dough (like Pillsbury) on a lightly floured surface. Using a pizza cutter, cut strips of pizza dough lengthwise, about 1 inch wide. Pierce dough with the pointed end of skewer and spiral wrap dough, allowing veggies and sausage to peek through. Wrap the end of the dough around the bottom to fasten. Repeat for remaining skewers. Place skewers on baking sheet and bake 10 to 12 minutes, until pizza dough is golden. Remove from oven and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese while hot.

Serve with pizza sauce. Makes 10

Make Some Noise

Savings Lifestyle

Try this simple noisemaker Andrea Deckard, mom of three and blogger at Savings Lifestyle in Cincinnati, made with her three boys, ages 17, 12 and 9, to cheer on their team. Wash a sports drink bottle and remove the label. Fill with “noise” like craft beads, beans, popcorn kernels or rice. Glue the bottle lid shut. Dress up your noisemaker with stickers, pompoms and streamers in your team’s colors.

Sugar Rush

Some things are better than football—like chocolate!

“Better than Football” Poke Cake

With a husband who is a football fanatic, Britni Vigil, mom of a 3-year-old and blogger at Play Party Plan in Fort Worth, Texas, decided to focus on the sweet stuff with a “Girls Need Chocolate Like Guys Need Football” party that’s become a tradition for her girlfriends. This easy, indulgent cake is the star of the party.
