Tell me about Meagan Good, who stars in “Deception”?
—Ella Mae Brown, Jackson, Miss.

Good, 31, landed her first TV commercial at age 4 and hasn’t stopped working since.

“I started acting as a hobby as a kid,” says the Panorama City, Calif., native, whose father was an LAPD officer and stepmother worked for the FBI. “I was never going to be the cheerleader, and I wasn’t good at dancing or sports, so my mother put me in drama. I stuck with it and I’ve loved it ever since I started.”

The high point of her career is the lead role in the NBC series “Deception,” playing Joanna Padget Locasto, a San-Francisco narcotics detective with childhood ties to a notoriously secretive and powerful New York family, who goes undercover when her childhood best friend is found dead under mysterious circumstances.

“I was overwhelmed and I just sat in my car for 15 minutes and cried,” she says of landing the part. “It is really humbling. I really love playing this character, and I’ve really enjoyed being able to do so many things with the action, the drama and the love affair. It’s very satisfying creatively.”

The veteran of 60 commercials nabbed her first role as a series regular on “Cousin Skeeter” in 1998. She has also guest starred on “Moesha,” “The Steve Harvey Show,” “The Division,” “The Parent ‘Hood,” “My Wife and Kids” and “All of Us” and had a season-long arc on “Californication” in 2012.

Her film credits include “Think Like a Man,” “Jumping the Broom,” “The Unborn,” “The Love Guru,” “Stomp the Yard,” “Brick,” “You Got Served,” “D.E.B.S,” “Waist Deep,” “The Cookout,” “Biker Boyz,” “Deliver Us From Eva,” “Roll Bounce” and “Saw V.”

“As a kid, I would watch, ‘Halloween 4’ and ‘5,’ and there was a little girl that played Jamie in it, and I would run around in my living room pretending to be Jamie. It definitely inspired me to want to act,” she says.
