Even while growing up on TV as Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert was cooking. She’s collected some of her favorite dishes in My Prairie Cookbook, including this casserole she makes for her husband and four boys every Christmas Day.

Sausage and Egg Casserole

3 pounds ground bulk breakfast sausage
18 large eggs
6 cups milk
1  Tbsp dry mustard
2  tsp salt
8 slices white bread, torn
1 cup (4 oz) grated cheese

1. Brown sausage well in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain thoroughly.

2. Beat eggs, milk, mustard, and salt together in a very large bowl. Add bread, cheese, and sausage and
mix to combine. Pour into two 13 x 9-inch glass baking dishes. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

3. Remove baking dishes from refrigerator and preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for about 50 minutes, until firm throughout and browned on top. Serve hot. Serves 16.
