Why did Stephanie Abrams decide to become a meteorologist?
—Barry Sexton, Little Rock, Ark.

Growing up in Florida, Abrams was 13 in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit the Sunshine State. Her curiosity was aroused and she wanted to learn how hurricanes develop. Plus, she’s always had a natural desire to know what makes things tick, which she came by from her father, Dr. Barry Abrams, an infectious-disease specialist, who encouraged her interest in science by twice sending her to United States Space Camp. These days, Abrams, 32, who co-hosts Wake Up With Al, is sent by the Weather Channel to cover some of the world’s biggest climatic events.
