Nate Berkus, 42, the host of NBC’s “American Dream Builders,” is an apple that didn’t fall far from the tree. His mother is HGTV and DIY TV designer Nancy Golden. “I basically grew up at auctions, antiques malls, yard sales and estate sales,” says Berkus, who was born in California and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. “My mother used to wake me up when I was a little kid and ask me if there was too much tortoise glass on the fireplace mantle.”
He worked at an auction house before starting with Oprah
