Some time after building a dog run in his fenced yard, Rufus Grey of Hudson, Wisconsin, noticed a strong urine odor in the dog run. Rufus did some research and learned that hydrated lime, a powdered lawn additive, is often dumped into outhouses to decrease odor. Most garden supply centers and some hardware stores carry hydrated lime. Now Rufus rakes a small amount into the dry soil as needed, and the odor problem has vanished.
