A tombstone near Fort Washakie (pop. 1,477) marks the grave of Sacagawea, the Shoshone Indian woman who served with the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805-06. An inscription reads that she died in 1884, but most historians say Sacagawea died much earlier-at about age 25-and was buried at Fort Manual, S.D.
