on May 15, 2011

Shortly after commissioning in 1916 of the battleship USS Arizona, which was sunk by Japan at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, residents of Arizona raised money to pay for a silver service to place on the ship. The service design includes state seals, Navy emblems, saguaros, dolphins and mermaids, as well as 1916 Arizona landmarks. The service collection now is housed at the Arizona Capitol Museum in Phoenix.
