What can you tell me about Nina Dobrev from “The Vampire Diaries?”
—Alexandra Chanel, Natchitoches, La.
At 23, Dobrev already has made a name for herself in the acting world with her dual role as Elena and Katherine on “The Vampire Diaries”; Mia, a single teenage mother on “Degrassi: The Next Generation”; and MTV’s “The American Mall.”
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Dobrev was 2 when her family relocated to Toronto, Canada. She attended both Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts and Ryerson University, but left prior to graduation to launch her acting career.
Her movie career includes “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” currently in theaters and based on the novel of the same name, the story of an introverted freshman (Logan Lerman), who learns about everything from drug use to suicide after being taken under the wings of his new friends. Dobrev plays his older sister.
Her other film credits include “Arena,” “The Roommate,” “Chloe,” “Fugitive Pieces,” “Away From Her” and “The Poet.” She has also appeared in the TV movies “Never Cry Werewolf” and “Too Young to Marry.”
Dobrev, who is dating her “The Vampire Diaries” co-star Ian Somerhalder, 33, says, she still looks forward to her roles on the show. “Every day is so different. I always say it is actors’ boot camp. I have done action, drama, underwater things, we have done stunts, there are so many cool things. It is really fun.”
