A stunt double is used on the show because of the danger involved in some of the more dramatic cheers. Michalka, 22, says she approached the role with some trepidation. “I had this outlook that these people must be insane,” she says. “How does someone think this is fun? This is scary.” But after a year of working with young women who have been cheerleading since they were 6 or 7 years old, the former Disney Channel star and singer-songwriter is more appreciative of the sport. “Now I can do more as a cheerleader. I have been able to get handed into a liberty [lift] without shaking and freaking out and having people holding me.”
