On ABC Family's The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Amy Pietz plays Meredith, an adoptive mom. Is it true that she was herself adopted?
—Claire Evans, Salem, Mo.
Yes. Pietz, 42, was born in Milwaukee, Wis., where she was adopted by Nancy and Arnold Pietz, a nurse and a truck driver. But there is more to her story.
She gave up a baby boy for adoption when she was 23 and has recently established a relationship with him. "He just came into my life; I just came into his," she says.
She also shares that she has had an ongoing relationship with her birth mother for the past 15 years.
In part, due to her experience with adoption, in addition to being an actress, Pietz became a birth doula, which is similar to being a birth coach. She helps to deliver babies. "I work with women and their partners," she says. "The best doulas empower women so much during their prenatal meetings that the doula ends up disappearing into the woodwork. But sometimes while I am disappearing into the woodwork, I am also massaging, and I am doing HypnoBirthing [a method of natural childbirth education, enhanced by self-hypnosis techniques], so I am helping a woman achieve her ideal birth."
