What can you tell me about the cute young man who stars in Hugo?
—Rachel Russell, Birmingham, Ala.
That would be London, England-born Asa Butterfield, 14, who is most recognizable from his previous roles in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, for which he was nominated as Most Promising Newcomer by the British Independent Film Awards, and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.
The talented youngster began acting at the age of 7 at the Young Actors Theatre in his hometown of Islington and landed a few parts in TV before launching his film career with Pyjamas.
Of his role as the orphan Hugo Cabret, he says, "I found it quite hard to relate to him because of all the hardships he's gone through in his life. He's had to grow up far faster than anyone his age should have."
Butterfield's other credits include the films The Wolfman and Son of Rambow and a recurring role on the TV series Merlin. Look for him next when he works again with his Hugo co-star Sir Ben Kingsley in the futuristic film Ender's Game, which also will star Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin.
