I love hating Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s bad-girl character on Melrose Place. But I heard she is leaving the cast. Did she know from the get-go that her role would end so soon?

The actress, 25, always knew that she was going to be a "person of interest" in another character’s murder, and that she and the show ultimately would go their separate ways. Simpson-Wentz took the job because as the mother of a toddler—son Bronx, 1, with husband/musician Pete Wentz—she wanted something relatively stable, like a TV series, to help her handle her parenting schedule. "Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do," she says. "So I jumped at the chance."
