I enjoy reruns of the TV Western The Big Valley. When did its star, Barbara Stanwyck, die?
—Violet Aldridge, Durham, N.C.
Stanwyck died in 1990 at 82 of congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The star of more than 80 films, including Stella Dallas, The Lady Eve, Christmas in Connecticut, Double Indemnity and Meet John Doe, was nominated for four Academy Awards for best actress and was given an honorary Oscar in 1982 for being “an artist of impeccable grace and beauty, a dedicated actress and one of the great ladies of Hollywood.”
