Affleck’s newest film “Argo,” based on true events that took place during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, is currently in theaters and receiving Oscar buzz. In addition to starring in the film, the California-born, Massachusetts-raised 40-year-old directed the project. He says, “When I got the script, I just thought, ‘I have to do this. It’s amazing.”
Also tentatively set for release this year is his romantic drama “To the Wonder,” and Affleck is currently filming “Runner, Runner” with Justin Timberlake. Another film on his slate is one in which he will reunite with Matt Damon for their Pearl Street production company, with Damon starring as Boston organized crime figure Whitey Bulger and Affleck directing.
On the personal side, Affleck, wife Jennifer Garner, 40, and their three children Violet, 6, Seraphina, 3, and Samuel, born in February, divide their time between homes in Massachusetts and California.
In addition to his film work, Affleck is an activist who runs the Eastern Congo Initiative, which works to improve the lives and birthrate in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He also is active in politics, recently having hosted a fundraiser for the Massachusetts Senate race of Harvard law professor and consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren.
