The two-time Tony Award winner, 65, who was born in Queens, N.Y., performs solo concerts, has completed the movie “Coming Up Roses,” and has the recurring TV role of Broadway legend Leigh Conroy on the NBC series “Smash.” She has written two children’s books, based on her own dogs, with the proceeds benefiting Broadway Barks, an animal charity event that that she co-founded with Mary Tyler Moore. Later this year, you can hear Peter as the voice of Glinda the good witch in the animated movie “Dorothy of Oz.”
