What can you tell me about the life of Betty Grable?
—Barbara Thurston, Forsyth, Ga.
Born in St. Louis, Mo., Grable was known as “the girl with the million dollar legs,” and her 1943 bathing suit poster made her the No. 1 pin-up girl of the World War II era. She made more than 60 films between 1929 and 1955, most prominently in musicals such as “Mother Wore Tights,” “Down Argentine Way”, “Moon Over Miami,” “Springtime in the Rockies” and “How To Marry a Millionaire.” Married twice, to actor Jackie Coogan and trumpeter Harry James, she had two daughters and died of lung cancer in 1973 at the age of 56.
