—Nancy D., Iowa
Yes and no. Cosby, 63, left high school to join the Navy, and earned his diploma through correspondence courses. He later went to college on a football scholarship. After college, Cosby started performing his comedy routine and went on to star in the weekly television show I Spy. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the 1970s to study how children learn, and received a doctorate in education. He has remained involved in educational causes, frequently donating large sums to educational institutions. He donated $20 million to Spelman College in Atlanta in 1989. During his career, he has won four Emmy awards, eight Grammy awards, the NAACP Image Award, and is a member of the Hall of Fame of the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences.
