Born Robert Velline in Fargo, N.D., Vee began his career at age 15 when he and his schoolboy group filled in for Buddy Holly after the singer died in a 1959 plane crash. Nowadays he performs about 60 concerts a year, singing "Rubber Ball," "Take Good Care of My Baby," "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes," "Devil or Angel" and other hits from his heyday.
