Brandon De Wilde, the actor who memorably portrayed young Joey in the 1953 movie Shane, received an Oscar nomination for that role and went on to star in his own short-lived TV series, Jamie, later that year. De Wilde, who also appeared in the films All Fall Down and Hud, was in Denver on the way to perform in the play Butterflies are Free when he was killed in a car accident in 1972 at the age of 30.
