What can you tell me about the actress who stars in Necessary Roughness? Where have I seen her before?
—Mary Hastings, Omaha, Neb.

That would be Callie Thorne, 41, who plays Dr. Dani Santino on the new USA Network series about a therapist for high-profile clients who is also a newly divorced mom with two teenagers.

The native of Boston, Mass., is best known as Sheila Keefe from Rescue Me and Detective Laura Ballard on Homicide: Life on the Street, but she has had recurring roles on Prison Break and ER, and played the ex-wife of Jimmy McNulty on The Wire.

“To go from playing someone like Sheila, who is a diagnosed bi-polar, manic depressive, to then get the script about this very normal, very loving, compassionate, stable woman [on Necessary Roughness] and to have this moment be the moment when everything was pulled out from under her…I like to see that kind of journey, that kind of change,” says.

Thorne’s film credits include lead roles in Welcome to Academia, Watching the Detectives and Delirious.
