What is musician Gary U.S. Bonds up to these days?
—Ron Neal, Bakersfield, Calif.
The R&B recording artist and native of Jacksonville, Fla., 74, recently released his autobiography, “By U.S. Bonds—That’s My Story,” which comes packaged with a CD of a song of the same name. “It gives you three minutes and 50 seconds of what the book is about, so if you don’t feel like sitting down and reading, put on the record,” says the author. Bonds, who had a No. 1 hit with “Quarter to Three” in 1961, enjoyed a bit of a comeback in the 1980s with “This Little Girl,” a collaboration with Bruce Springsteen. “Springsteen wrote it in my home on my little piano,” says Bonds, who lives in Long Island, N.Y., with his wife of 50 years, Laurie. Still performing, he plans to release a new album by year’s end.
