In 1908, in one of baseball’s most publicized stunts, Washingon Senators catcher Charles Evard “Gabby” Street, also called “Old Sarge,” caught a baseball dropped from the top of the Washington Monument, a distance of 555 feet. Street was born in 1882 in Huntsville.
