Chimpanzee

Blu-ray + DVD

The latest documentary from the Disneynature folks—an up-close look at the life of “Oscar,” a young chimp growing up in the African forest—is a heartwarming real-life adventure that will delight kids and grownups alike. But just as interesting are the behind-the-scenes bonus features on the Blu-ray, which reveal that this project was no walk in the park. One showcases the team of researchers who’ve been observing chimpanzees, like Oscar and his family, in Africa’s Ivory Coast for three decades; another documents one cameraman’s daily two-hour trek through the jungle to get to the chimps; “Camp Invaders” looks at the many creepy, crawly bugs and other creatures the filmmakers found at their campsite; and “Forest of Bees” details how the crew spent two days traversing a seemingly endless swarm of bees in order to capture 20 seconds of footage.
