Every Thursday morning, Dan Dewey is at the cancer unit of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland hospital in Pontiac (pop. 59,515) and taking coffee orders for Starbucks. Nicknamed the “coffee angel,” Dewey started making free coffee runs in 2007 when his father, Edgar Dewey, was a patient. Though his father died in 2008, he still fetches coffee to give chemotherapy patients a lift. Donations now cover coffee costs.
