Born María José de Pablo Fernández in Santiago, Chile, de Pablo, who turns 32 on Nov. 12, moved with her family to Miami, Fla., when she was 10. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in acting and musical theater in 2000.
Prior to being cast on NCIS, de Pablo starred in the television series The Jury, and she made guest appearances on The $treet and The Education of Max Bickford. She hosted a popular Latin-themed talk show on Univision with Carlos Ponce and made her movie debut in 2010’s The Last Rites of Ransom Pride.
Unlike her Ziva David character on NCIS, de Pablo does not hold a black belt in any martial art. But after all these years of playing the tough-as-nails former Israeli Mossad agent, she says she can now watch a show like Ultimate Fighting. “I am actually one of those girls who sits down and says, ‘That is interesting.’ And after one or two fights, I am, ‘Come on!’ I never thought I would be that kind of a girl. Now I am obsessed with some of the fights.”
