What can you tell me about Matt Ryan, who plays Mick Rawson on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior? Is he British?
—Janice Scott, Oakland, Calif.

Ryan, 29, is Welsh, not British. He graduated from the Bristol Old Vic in 2003 and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2004. His other credits include The Tudors, Torchwood and Mrs. Pettigrew Lives for a Day. He says of his role on the CBS series, “I came over for pilot season and this was the first door I walked in. I liked the psychological aspect of the show and digging into people. It is what you do as an actor.” Ryan recently starred in Hamlet on stage in New York and London opposite Jude Law. Happy to be in the U.S., he admits there are aspects of American culture that he finds challenging to master. “Like sense of humor. I have to say, ‘That was a joke.’ But I love it here. I love the optimism.”
