I hated to see the end of the TV series “Rescue Me.” Tell me about Denis Leary, who played firefighter Tommy Gavin.

Leary, 55, was born the son of Irish immigrants in Worcester, Mass. He graduated from Emerson College in 1979 and went on to teach comedy writing for five years. Then, as a standup comic, he gained his initial fame ranting on MTV. The married father of two children has made more than 40 films, including “The Sandlot,” “The Ref,” “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Leary provided the voice of Diego in four “Ice Age” movies.
