I was happily surprised to see that Dianne Wiest has joined the television show Law & Order. Isn't she primarily a movie actress?

Dianne Wiest, who plays District Attorney Nora Lewin, is an Academy Award winner (Best Supporting Actress Oscars for Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway), but she's no stranger to television. Appearances include Road to Avonlea, for which she received an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama; The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn; and the miniseries The 10th Kingdom. "Having a female actor of this caliber is unprecedented on series television," says Dick Wolfe, executive producer of Law & Order. "Dianne has won virtually every major film award and has established herself as one of the finest actors of her generation." Wiest resides in New York City.
