Does Elijah Wood collect his action figures? Will there be one for Tron: Uprising?
—Carl Jameson, Santa Fe, N.M.
That is a definite “yes” from Wood, 31, who admits to having a complete collection of his own action figures. He says, “When I was young, I collected Star Wars toys and Batman action figures. As I became a teenager, I collected all the MacFarlane movie monster toys. I loved all that stuff, so it’s a dream come true.”
As for whether or not Disney will make one of Beck, the character the Cedar Rapids, Iowa-born actor voices in the Disney XD series Tron: Uprising, it remains to be seen. One hasn’t been made yet.
But it is for sure that when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released in December of this year that there will be a new action figure for that.
It is hard to believe that it was more than a decade ago that Wood put on his Frodo Baggins costume for the first time for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. “So many of the crew, who had worked on Rings, are working on The Hobbit,” he says. “A number of the same actors are working on it. We shot a little bit in Hobbiton, and I realized that I had turned 19 there. I was there 11 years ago. That’s bonkers! And it hasn’t changed. It was really amazing! It felt like stepping back in time.”
But first Wood is back on TV for the second season of FX’s Wilfred, the series about a guy who is friends with a man in a dog suit, but he is the only one who can see that the dog is a man.
“People have a lot of enthusiasm for what we’re doing and seem to really get into some of the questions that we create, which is really wonderful,” he says. “In one respect, the show is a comedy…but underneath all of that, there are all these layers, and people seem to really be responding to all those layers and the multi-faceted aspect of the show.”
