Released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Presley’s triumphant comeback concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden (and taking its title from the “New York Times” headline that accompanied the newspaper’s rave 1972 review), this deluxe collection couples the 20 songs originally released on LP only eight days afterward with an additional disc of recordings from another of the Garden shows. The music is King-size, Elvis in full regal swing. But the bonus DVD is the real gem here, with extremely rare footage shot by a fan of Presley’s performance (synched with newly mixed audio for an authentic from-the-audience “concert” feel), plus an all-new documentary about the Madison Square Garden event and its significance for Presley, and the entire press conference that preceded the big event, which was attended by Elvis, his father and his manager, Col. Tom Parker.
