Whatever happened to Flip Wilson, who had a comedy show in the 1970s?

The comedian, born Clerow Wilson Jr., hosted The Flip Wilson Show on NBC from 1970 to 1974. His popular variety series featured Wilson cross-dressing to play one of TV's most colorful characters, the sassy know-it-all Geraldine. "She carried me longer than my mother did," he joked. Wilson retired from television in the 1980s to raise his children and enjoy his hobbies of riding motorcycles and piloting hot-air balloons. He died of liver cancer in 1998 at 64.
