I would like to know a little about country singer Gene Watson, who had the hit “Farewell Party.” Does he still perform?
—Cheryl Barry, Checotah, Okla.
Watson, 69, a native of Palestine, Texas, who also had hits with “Fourteen Carat Mind,” “Love in the Hot Afternoon” and “Paper Rosie,” continues to tour and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his recording career last year with a new CD, “Best of the Best: 25 Greatest Hits.” “Seems like my career just kind of happened accidentally,” the former auto body shop worker says. “It was purely unintentional. Music was just a sideline. I was going to be playing and singing no matter what line of work I was going to do.”
