Hymns
Guy Penrod
CD ($12.45)

Gospel music fans will have no trouble recognizing this singer’s familiar face from his 14 years as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. For his second project since spreading his solo wings in 2009, Penrod returns to some of his earliest musical roots with this collection of classic church hymns, including “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Rock Of Ages,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Softly And Tenderly.” But the highlight is a true bridge across the generations: a duet with the 103-year-old gospel icon George Beverly Shea, a fixture for decades on Billy Graham’s evangelical crusades, on the alter-call chestnut “Does Jesus Care?”
