Incredible stories of bravery have emerged Tuesday after a deadly tornado decimated two schools, a hospital and thousands of homes and lives in Moore, Okla., (pop. 56,315).

At least 24 died, including nine children, died Monday in storms that ravaged the Oklahoma City suburb. Graphic photos of teachers—themselves battered and bleeding—carrying students from what remained of school building show the loss of life could have been much worse.
