Entertainers of the 1950s and ’60s were drawn to the Oakdale Theater, which opened in Wallingford (pop. 45,135) in 1954 under a tent in a farm field. Over the years, owners expanded the venue, replacing the tent in 1972 with a wooden dome that seated 3,200 underneath. In 1997, a new venue was built, featuring a lobby and 4,600-seat theater with a proscenium stage.
