What can you tell me about Morgan Woodward, one of the best character actors of all time, especially in Westerns?
—G.L. Muter, Columbiaville, Michigan
Morgan Woodward, 88, was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and served as a pilot during World War II and the Korean War before Walt Disney hired him for a role in “The Great Locomotive Chase” (1956). Evolving into one of the great all-time bad guys in TV and film Westerns, he made 19 appearances on “Gunsmoke” and was also a co-star of TV’s “The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp,” “Days of Our Lives” and “Dallas.” But one of his most memorable roles was as the “man with no eyes,” the chain gang boss wearing sunglasses in “Cool Hand Luke.” Retired, Woodward spends his time today restoring, rebuilding and flying antique airplanes.
