Is “The Big C” canceled? I had hoped for another season to find out what happens.

Cathy Jamison (Laura Linney) sailing away from her family and friends, deciding they would be better off without her since her tumors were growing again, could have been the series finale, instead of just the third season finale. But Showtime has decided to bring “The Big C” back for four more episodes to neatly wrap things up.
“We would not be happy if that was the ending; I think we owe our audience the chance to see this through,” executive producer Jenny Bicks says.
In addition to Linney, Oliver Platt, John Benjamin Hickey, Gabriel Basso and Gabourey Sidibe will be back. They will be joined by guest star Kathy Najimy as Cathy’s no-nonsense therapist, who will help her deal with the challenges she faces; and Isaac Mizrahi, who will play a fashion mentor to Andrea (Sidibe), who will start design school. No airdate has been set as yet for the four-episode limited season “The Big C: hereafter.”
