Q: What is singer Jackie DeShannon doing now?

—Dorothy Spotswood, Mexico, Mo.

DeShannon, 69, recently released When You Walk in the Room, an album with a stripped-down treatment of her hit songs, including "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and "What the World Needs Now Is Love." "I recorded them like I stopped by your house for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, kind of strumming and singing," says the native of Hazel, Ky. In her non-musical time, she works with The Seeing Eye, which provides guide dogs for the blind. She and her husband, film composer Randy Edelman, live in Beverly Hills and have a grown son.
