The first time I saw the movie “Twilight,” I was intrigued by the actor Jackson Rathbone, who plays the character Jasper Hale. Is he any relation to the famed actor Basil Rathbone?
Darlene Luitjens, Prescott, Ariz.

Rathbone, 27, whose birth name is Monroe Jackson Rathbone V, has a couple of interesting relatives, but Basil Rathbone is not among them.

His great-grandfather was the chairman of Standard Oil of New Jersey, and Jackson is also distantly related to Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson.

Born in Singapore but raised in Texas, Rathbone began his acting career in theater. His credits include “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Macbeth,” “Les Miserables,” “Grease,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

He also plays in the band 100 Monkeys.

This fall, Rathbone will return one final time as Jasper Hale when the last film in the “Twilight” saga, “Breaking Dawn—Part 2” makes its way into theaters on Nov. 16.

“It’s been a thrill ride,” he says of being a part of the successful franchise. “We’ve been able to meet some of the most wonderful people, traveling all over the world. We have these fans who fell in love with these characters and these books, and who come to these movies. To be able to be a part of that has been amazing.”
