Can you tell me anything about Jane Withers? As a child in the 1930s, I remember her in the movies.
Barbara Brown, Canon City, Colo.

“What amuses people the most about me,” says Withers, now 84, “is that I’m still alive and kicking.” The Atlanta native and former child star is proud to have “survived through Hollywood thick and thin.” She appears occasionally at film festivals to discuss her love of the movies, particularly her best-known role as the bratty playmate opposite Shirley Temple in Bright Eyes (1934).¬† In 1956, she appeared with James Dean in Giant, and in the 1960s and early ’70s, she was a fixture on TV as Josephine the Plumber in commercials for Comet household cleanser.
