Born in 1925 in Barstow, Calif., (pop. 21,119) Crain won the Miss Long Beach beauty pageant at age 16, started modeling, and ended up in Hollywood. She was known for her beauty and was cast in most of her movies because of it. Crain received an Oscar nomination for her starring role in Pinky in 1949 and starred in numerous movies throughout the '50s and '60s. She retired from acting in the early '70s. Married, with her seven grown children, she then traveled the world and turned her artistic energy toward painting. Crain lives with her husband in California.
