Born in Berkswell, England, in 1933, Jeremy Brett made his stage debut in 1954 and a year later his film debut in the British film Svengali, followed by 1956's War and Peace. He earned critical acclaim for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the Granada Television series from 1983 through 1994. Brett was married twice, first to Anna Massey in 1958 until 1962 and then to Joan Wilson in 1977. They had a son, David, and Brett also helped raise her two children from a previous marriage. He died of heart failure in 1995 at his home in South London.
