The St. Louis native, 39, earned a degree in English from the University of Missouri and was a schoolteacher before he turned to acting. In addition to Mad Men, he appeared on TV in Providence, The Division, The Unit and 30 Rock, and his film credits include The Town, Space Cowboys, We Were Soldiers and the upcoming Sucker Punch. In comparing his TV character’s retro life to present day, Hamm says, “The one thing I think the ’60s had over present day is the pace. Life moved a lot slower. It wasn’t a constant chase.”
