Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah co-star in this inspiring, music-filled comedy about a small-town Southern church choir with their eyes on the prize of a national singing competition. But their two characters, G.G. and Vi, don’t see eye to eye about the group’s musical direction, and things get even more complicated when harmonies begin heating up with hormones as G.G.’s visiting grandson (Broadway performer Jeremy Jordan) takes a liking to Vi’s beautiful daughter (KeKe Palmer). In addition to two original tunes Parton wrote for the movie, the cast also puts new sorta-spiritual spins on familiar songs by Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Sly & The Family Stone. Extras include several making-of featurettes, a spotlight on the film’s leading ladies, and deleted scenes.
