On March 2, 2004, Katey Sagal, who plays the mom on 8 Simple Rules, sang Daddy’s Girl. Can you please tell me who sang it first?

Katey Sagal sang it first. Though known for her TV roles as Peg Bundy on Married With Children and now on 8 Simple Rules, the Hollywood-born daughter of a show business family started her career as a singer, following in the footsteps of her mother. (Her father, Boris Sagal, was a director.) She worked with Bob Dylan, Etta James and Bette Midler. She wrote Daddy’s Girl about seven years ago and it is the first single from her new album, Room, which was released in June. “The song is about my parents, about growing up thinking that you’ll be nothing like your parents and then realizing that you’re way more than you thought you would be,” she says with a laugh. “We had a script that needed me to sing, and I had these tracks. It just so happened that it was perfect for the episode, which was about my father never really acknowledging that I had this dream of being a singer.”
